The cupcake craze has been ongoing for a few years, and dozens (maybe hundreds) of cupcakes have been written on the subject. Some of them are just okay, and some are excellent. One of the latter is Let Them Eat Cupcakes: 100 Cupcake Recipes to Rule Them All, by Gabrielle Cote, who has a degree in Bakery and Pastry arts from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. After reading and cooking from this amazing book, it’s obvious that Cote really knows her stuff.

While the first chapters of this excellent book include techniques, basics, equipment, and all the preliminary information needed to create perfect cupcakes at home, as well as several recipes for basic types of buttercream frostings and basic cupcake flavors, the most fun part of the book is the subsequent recipes for cupcakes celebrating major and minor holidays, the four seasons, birthdays, anniversaries, and other important milestones such as graduation. To add to the magic of this cookbook, Cote has taken famous desserts such as Sachertorte, Tiramisu, Rum Baba, and others and made them into mouthwatering cupcakes. She has also included dozens of recipes that use fresh fruit for flavoring, coloring, and toppings. Her imagination skills are amazing.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner with comments and notes at the beginning, followed by a list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions which are easy to follow and make it possible for bakers who are both beginning and advanced. The recipes are also accompanied by beautiful, professional photographs of the cupcakes, and those photos make it fun to peruse the book while picking out the next flavor to prepare.

All told, anyone who wants a good and complete cupcake cookbook will want to pick this one up.
