Bestselling author Michael Greger, famous for his books on avoiding aging has released a cookbook with recipes to help all of us to age gracefully and slowly, The How Not to Age Cookbook: 100+ Recipes for Getting Healthier and Living Longer . Greger did not write the recipes, but his co-writer, Robin Robertson, has developed them.
There is lots of information from Greger’s previous books on adding years to your life, including the results of large scientific studies. The book is well written and interesting to read. There are many good ideas for changing your lifestyle, so that are worth incorporating into your life.
Everybody wants to be healthy, but foodies also want foods that taste good and are worth eating. While this cookbook has some appealing dishes, it is vegetarian, which doesn’t sit well with carnivores or others who like fish. Meat and fish have protein and when consumed in moderation, most likely won’t shorten your life. Some studies have shown that vegetarian diets sometimes lack the needed nutrition. So this cookbook is a great vegetarian cookbook, but eating these recipes may not necessarily lead to a longer life. Some of the vegetable dishes are mouthwatering, and would make great side dishes for those of us who aren’t vegan or vegetarian.
All told, this isn’t a particularly exciting cookbook, and, while it has beautiful photographs, and well-written recipes that are easy to follow, won’t appeal to those of us who love real food.
