Fans of historical thrillers will want to pick up the first installment of The Countess of Prague Mystery Series, The Countess of Prague. In this fascinating novel, Beatrice von Falklenburg, who is the daughter of a Czech nobleman, goes by Trixie, and is a member of high society. When a beat up body is discovered and pulled from a river, she decided to join the ranks of detective at age 28. The novel takes place in 1904, and the historical aspects ring true; Stephen Weeks has definitely researched and done his homework.

The story is fun to read, and there are twists and turns. While the Countess sticks with her societal norms, she goes out of her way to solve the mystery. She does an excellent job of developing the character of the Countess, and the sub-characters are also well-developed. Trixie is a perfect protagonist for this series, and readers will be able to put themselves in her place. She is unhappily married and lives apart from her husband, so readers will feel that she is on her own in solving the mysteries that she is trying to solve.

All told, this is an excellent novel, and historical novel aficionados will most likely enjoy it.
