Any baker who loves cookies will want to pick up COOKIES: The Classics, an excellent cookbook filled with almost every cookie anyone can think of. As with most cookbooks published by Cider Mill Press, there are lots of recipes, but no notes from a single author. However, the recipes and photographs are worth it.
This cookbook does include some descriptions at the beginning many of the recipes, which helps in choosing which cookies to make. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. Many of the cookies have minimal ingredient lists, and there are many recipes for foreign cookies, many which are traditional over the holidays.

Most of the recipes are accompanied by beautiful, mouthwatering photographs, which make it difficult to decide which cookie to make at any given time. Not all of the cookies featured are sweet; rather there are some savory cookies that would be nice served with a charcuterie board or as an accompaniment to appetizers.

All told, this is an excellent book for both advanced and beginning bakers. Kids will want to peruse this book and will choose dozens of recipes that appeal to them. It will make a good addition to any cookbook collection.
