Help Needed for Katrina Victims

Help Needed for Katrina Victims

In the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina it has become apparent to many that the local and federal governments of the cities that were affected were unprepared for the complete and utter destruction that has taken place in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. On that note I am working with Hosea Feed the Hungry here in Atlanta to supply the victims that have arrived here in Georgia desperately seeking assistance. I am also asking all of my readers and supporters to become involved in the relief efforts. We need your help!

There are many families who fled the storm and arrived here with the thought of returning home after the hurricane. They are now finding out that they have no homes to return to and are asking the citizens of Atlanta to help them. Last night several television and radio stations in the Atlanta metro area held fundraisers for victims of the storm and hundreds turned out. I worked an event hosted by radio station V-103 and Hosea Feed the Hungry and met so many families living 10, 20, and even 30 people to a home or hotel room. They have nothing but the clothes on their backs and it was just heartbreaking to hear their stories.

So I am calling on everyone all over the country to log on to www.hoseafeedthehungry.com and make an online donation or volunteer. If you have a room in your home that you can offer a family please let us know. We are desperate for help and there are plans underway to get supplies to the affected areas as well as to our shelters here in Atlanta that is housing many of the victims. On the site for Hosea Feed the Hungry there is also a list of needed supplies, a schedule of events, a place to put your information for volunteering, and background information on this charity organization. I can honestly say that I have worked for this group since moving to the Atlanta area and the work that they do for the homeless in phenomenal. They have been in existence since 1971 and your money will go to the people who need it.

Other place where your help is needed:

The American Red Cross-www.redcross.org
Americares Foundations-www.americares.org
The Salvation Army-www1.salvationarmy.org

You can also check out The Network for Good website that lists several organizations working in the Katrina Relief efforts. The address is www.networkforgood.org.

Again I thank all of the members of this wonderful gospel community for your support in advance. Please continue to pray for the many thousands of victims of this storm. May God continue to bless you.
