In the years after the age of 30 or 40, age often shows itself in the skin around our jaw line and neck. Skin start sag and show fine lines. At this time it is often beneficial to wear a hair style that is a little longer so that the longer lines of the hair style softens the appearance of the chin and neck.

This style extends just to shoulder length. It touches the shoulder but does not lie on the shoulder. The cut is layered enough to keep the top of the style full and the bottom lengths close to the chin and neck.
I have often said that longer hair is not always the best choice for a woman over 40 or over 50. The down lines of longer hair will often accentuate sagging skin. But, don't give up on your dreams of stylishly longer hair. Avoid very long hair that does not have a stylish shape. Usually, it is more flattering for the style to be fuller on the top than on the bottom.

Lifting the bangs up off your forehead will show off your eyes to better advantage and cause the face shape to appear a bit more narrow. To do this, lift the hair with a comb as you spray with a firm hold hairspray in that area only. This will keep the lift in place while allowing the rest of your hair to flow freely. Do the same thing with the sides, lifting them up and off your face to accentuate your cheek bones.
Keep your hair close and simple at chin level and below. Softly waved layers are more flattering to the lines of the chin and neck.

Younger girls may be able to wear hair that is perfectly straight and flat but that is usually not the best style for a more mature woman. A soft wave or curve in the style is often the better choice and is still very stylish. Choosing a style that is cut to the shoulders or above, allows the hair to flow and move easily. Avoid using hair spray except where you need it, such as the bangs or sides. Get over the feeling that every hair must stay in place. Hair that is sprayed into place in an immovable style shouts “dated.” Hair that moves is always more touchable and youthful looking.
