2008 CMA Awards Winners

2008 CMA Awards Winners
Another CMA Awards show has been aired and the awards have been presented. There were a few surprises and a lot of things that stayed the same. There were new hosts in Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, who did a good job. Brad is known for his sense of humor, Carrie was able to show hers off. Brad Paisley and Keith Urban opened the show with Start a Band. Two of the best pickers in country music today then showed off their guitar skills at the end of the song to the delight of the audience. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley then came out to start the show. Brad was still trying to get dressed from his quick change from performing. To kick things off Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman came out to present the award for Single of the Year to George Strait for I Saw God Today. Kellie Pickler came out and sang The Best Days of Your Life. Alan Jackson came out and sang Good Times. Song to the Year was presented by Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus to Jennifer Nettles for Stay, this award is presented to the songwriter, not the artist.Miranda Lambert perfomed More Like Her, proving that she can do ballads just as well as the southern rock that she is most known for on the shows. Lady Antebellum performed Love Don’t Live Here Anymore. Martina McBride performed Ride. Rodney Atkins performed It’s America.  Heidi Newfield and John Rich came out to present Vocal Group of the Year to Rascal Flatts. Taylor Swift performed Love Story. Kid Rock performed All Summer Long. George Strait performed Rollin’ on the River of Love. Jason Aldean performed She’s Country. Taylor Swift, last years winner,  presented New Artist of the Year to Lady Antebellum.  Brad Paisley remembered Jerry Reed, who lost his battle with cancer this year. Brooks & Dunn performed Cowgirls Don’t Cry with Reba. Julianne Hough, Jake Owen and Jimmy Wayne presented Vocal Duo of the Year to Sugarland. Darius Rutcker performed Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It. Brad Paisley performed Waitin’ On A Woman. Lee Ann Womack and Josh Turner presented Album of the Year to George Strait for “Troubadour”.  Brad Paisley won Music Video of the Year, presented before the show,  for Waitin’ on a Woman featuring Andy Griffith. Keith Urban performed Sweet Thing. Leslie Ponder, a military widow, introduced Carrie Underwood performing Just a Dream. Vince Gill came out to announce the newest members of the CMA Hall of Fame Tom T Hall, Emmylou Harris, The Statler Brothers and Ernest Stoneman, then presented the award for Female Vocalist of the Year to Carrie Underwood. Sugarland performed It’s Love. James Otto performed Just Got Started Loving You. Kenny Chesney performed Everybody Wanna Go to Heaven with the Wailers. Trace Adkins performed You’re Gonna Miss this. Reese Witherspoon presented the Male Vocalist of the Year to Brad Paisley, who ran out from backstage to kiss his wife and her pregnant belly. The Eagles performed Too Busy. Shania Twain made a surprise appearance to present the Entertainer of the Year award to Kenny Chesney for the fourth time. All in all it was  good show, there were some sound issues with the performers, there weren’t any big surprises about who won, it seemed to be the same people as last year. The only awards that most people couldn’t guess, IMO, would have been New Artist of the Year and the ones that go for songs and not artists. The artist categories don’t seem to change much.
