Simple Harvest and Thanksgiving Decorations

Simple Harvest and Thanksgiving Decorations
The colors of autumn are so attractive, it just makes you want to decorate with a harvest theme. But if you buy decorations you have to think of storage between seasons. The decorations may get damaged in storage and certainly will become dusty from one year to the next. It is much better to decorate your home with real natural products that are in abundance each year.

Here are some great ways of decorating your home with autumn products that you can repeat each year:

Autumn Leaves
Collect leaves that vary in color and size. Use them loose in a pile in the middle of a table or place them along the mantel. Take two clear glass plates and sandwich them between the two, or put them loose in a decorative basket.

Gourds and Pumpkins
Nothing says harvest like a large pumpkin in the middle of a display. You can also place a pumpkin surrounded by gourds on your porch to create a harvest theme.

Corn also comes in many colors, you can mix multiple corn kernels in with your pumpkin and gourds.

Fruit
A large display of fruit is a sign of an abundant harvest. Have a fruit bowl that is overflowing as your harvest decoration and let people snack from it. Or use a cornucopia as your center decoration instead of the fruit bowl. You can have an effective display with different colors of apples.

Tree branches
You can cut branches from trees and use them as decorations. If you get creative you can glue fruit or vegetables in with tree branches. Just make sure you tell the family not to eat that particular ornament. Then when the season is over everything will compost.

Hay bales
Hay bales make good decorations for fall. Put them on your porch with a scarecrow, or use them for your harvest party.

The best thing about using natural products is that they are edible or compostable. When the season is over you don’t need to find storage until next year. Each year you can have fresh decorations – literally.
