Greetings, fellow crime buffs! Please join me in sending prayers, positive vibes, good thoughts, or whatever you choose to the victims of Saturday's shooting in Tucson, AZ, as well as their loved ones. Rep. Giffords has a long haul ahead of her, but I am amazed at the news reports of her condition, given her injury.

This week in crime history 1/13-1/19:

1/13/1987-The heads of the Genovese, Columbo, and Lucchese crime families of New York were each sentenced to 100 years in prison for racketeering and racketeering conspiracy.

1/14/1741-American traitor Benedict Arnold is born.

1/15/1978-Serial killer Ted Bundy claims the lives of Lisa Levy and Margaret Bowman and injures 3 others.

1/16/1936-Albert Fish is executed by electric chair at New York’s Sing Sing Prison.

1/17/1989-Patrick Purdy opens fire at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, CA, killing 5 and wounding 30 before committing suicide.

1/18/1990-Marion Barry, mayor of Washington, D.C., is arrested after an undercover drug investigation by the FBI.

1/19/1983-“Butcher of Lyon” Klaus Barbie, SS Haupsturmfuhrer, is arrested in Bolivia and extradited to France to stand trial for war crimes committed during WWII.
