*In addition to the standard tomato sauce in your kitchen cabinet, add tomato paste, which will add body and thickness to your sauce. Add a couple of teaspoons to your tomato sauce. Another good addition is stewed tomatoes. There are several kinds; I always keep Mexican stewed tomatoes because they already have jalapeno peppers, and cumin, plus dried onion, celery and bell pepper. When you are in a hurry to get a meal on the table, these tomato-based products are very handy. I shop at Stop and Shop supermarkets and like their home brand products so I save money as well.
