We are coming up on the centenary of 'Abdu'l-Bahá's visit to America. In 1911-12, the son of Bahá'u'lláh, Prophet/Founder of the Bahá'í Faith, travelled to the West--first to Europe and England, then to the United States, where He toured for almost 14 months. He traveled coach and paid his own way, always distributing whatever was given to him immediately--often to the needy.
The purpose of the trip was to strengthen the fledgling American Bahá'í community and to reach out to leaders of thought, to share His Father's teachings. 'Abdu'l-Bahá was asked to speak in many venues, from church pulpits, to religious and philosophical organizations, to labor unions, and university faculty and students. The President of Stanford University, David Starr Jordan, described him as "treading the mystical path with practical feet."
Here, in the latest article from the Baha'i site at BellaOnline.com, is a sample summary of how 'Abdu'l-Bahá, a man of the East, shared His Father's revelation with the people of the West.
What Bahá'u'lláh Taught
In 1911, at a talk given to the Theosophical Society of London, England, 'Abdu'l-Bahá outlined His Father's teachings.
