Happy Monday!

Another week in October has flown by at lightning speed, and we find ourselves in the middle of October. When the weather turns cooler, it is a nice time to try out a new craft or activity. Have you and the preschooler in your life done any fun fall crafts or learning activities?

Language & Literacy Tip: Create a reading space for your child.
Create a cozy, kid-friendly area that is designated for reading. It might be a corner in their bedroom, or possibly in the living room, that has a pillow and some stuffed animals. Get a basket or bin to store their favorite books in. Snuggle up in their new reading area and read a book. Let your child participate in reading the book! Ask them questions. Let them retell the story in their own words after the book is finished. Encourage them to go spend time in their personal library throughout the day.

Recipe of the Week: Kid Friendly Lunch Ideas
I don’t know about you, but I seem to get in a lunch rut and always make the same thing. I came across these yummy ideas and am looking forward to trying them out with my kids.

Simple Lunch Ideas

Quick Art (and fine motor!): Sticker “Tracing”

Supplies:

1. stickers

2. construction paper

Directions: Write your child’s name or draw their favorite shape on a piece of paper. They will “trace” their name or the shape by covering it with stickers. Small stickers work best for this activity, but any that you have on hand will work.

Movement Activity: Freeze Dance

Blast some music in your living room and start dancing! Encourage your preschooler to dance in a variety of ways: slow, fast, hands up in the air, hands down low, or hopping around. Every 30 seconds pause the music. When the music stops everybody must freeze. Repeat.

This sounds so simple, and it really is. But trust me; your kids will have a blast especially if you are dancing silly and crazy. Act like a kid and have some fun!
