Happy Fall!
I can't believe how quickly this month has been passing by! School has started and my writing has been taking me places. My son is in 1st grade and is going well. One of the moms in his class recognized me from the Preschool Education website. What a small world!
The news agency that interviewed me last summer about Eating Disorders is working a couple of storylines and e-mailed to ask me if I am available for Domestic Violence related subjects. Of course I said yes! So look for me to be on TV again soon!
I will also be participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) again this year. You can learn more about it at www.nanowrimo.org The novel I started last year for this is nearly finished. For those of you who don't remember, it is a fictionalized tale of what my abuser did to me. I have the first chapter posted on my author website located at http://jeanettespace0.tripod.com/ I will be keeping a blog as I work on my new novel. In the next few weeks, I will be putting out articles dealing with personality disorders that may lead to abuse in a relationship. This week we look at Intermittent Explosive Disorder. This is a rare disorder and can be very scary if you live with someone who suffers from it.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline Website feature an article in April 2006 that I think is worth a read by everyone and anyone considering leaving their abusive partner. It is entitled "Don't let your abuser catch you reading this story". In this article, the author names 50 things to consider before leaving you abusive situation. Here are the Top 5:
1 Call a local domestic violence hot line to come up with a safety plan before you leave. Call from a safe phone because your abuser can check phone records or press "redial" to find out who you called.
2 Identify all possible escape routes in your home.
3 Don't take anything from the house that he'll notice is missing.
4 Be careful about packing an emergency bag and hiding it in the house. Abusers are paranoid and may count the suitcases.
5 It's not going to get better. It's going to get worse. Call the hot line.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in an attractive and
well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways,
chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body
thoroughly used up totally worn out and
screaming--
WOOOHOOO what a ride!!
