OK back on track here but still with major ISP problems - if you consider not being able to connect to the internet for about 20 hours at a stretch to be a problem. My isp does not consider it to be THEIR problem. And that's a problem since I consider it to be their problem. So far the problem has been blamed on: 1) a friend sending a massive photo file thus clogging up the system (she didn't send such a file); 2) noise on the phone line (new phone cord installed, had phone co. check line); 3) My anti-virus software somehow clogging the system (isp says turn virus protection off. I refuse)and last but not least 4) isp says my computer is an antique and that's the problem. (it's 2 years old). Bottom line: the issue has not been resolved.
