Ineke Kuiperij is a master tatter from the Netherlands. Her talent for constructing 3-dimensional (3-d) objects from tatted lace is astounding. Although the text of her 13th book, Musical Clowns, is in Dutch, there are abbreviations given in the front of the book which are in Dutch, German and English. See photo of the list below. This enables all of us to work these delightful patterns. Online tatting terms equivalents are available if additional help is needed. The diagrams should be carefully studied before beginning the pattern. I would also recommend marking a path to climb from the center out or from row to row without cutting the thread.
This is the diagram for tatting the clowns' gloves. It may be tatted in one pass without cutting the thread. It begins in the center with a regular ring and is surrounded with chains. The thumb, of course, may be thrown off from either side. So cute.

I was charmed by the unusual adaptations Ineke created with the tatted block. The drummer clown has block tatting wrapped around his head for hair and the lapels of his coat are a series of blocks tatted in different lengths. But I much admire her creative use of split rings and chains to create the violin.
