Happy Thanksgiving. Tips to enjoy the day and not worry about eating too much:
•To keep your mind occupied about something other than eating try to focus on enjoying the smells and the site of the Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoy the company of friends and family. Think of all the things you are thankful for, make a list.
•You don’t have to deny yourself. In fact if you turn down the foods you really want you will probably end up splurging on them later. Moderation is the key to eating the meal. Go ahead and have a little bit of everything you want. You will probably find that a little bit of everything will more than fill you up.
•Don’t go back for seconds. Give your body time to digest the food you have just eaten before you load up on more.
•Desserts are great and so tempting. Give in to temptation. Again moderation is the key to avoid overeating. Take a small piece of pie and if you must have cream topping then just have a teaspoon full.
•Help clean up. You can burn some of those calories you just consumed.
•Take a walk. While everyone is passed out from the tryptophan in the turkey, you can stay alert and burn some more calories.
•Leave the left-overs for the chef. However, if you have a family who would enjoy them take enough for one meal keeping it balanced. Don’t bulk up on dressing and mashed potatoes when green beans are available also. Remember a little bit of everything.
