Beer Fox Tip of the Week:
Altbier and Food
The blend of hop bitterness, robust malt flavor and gentle touch of fruitiness makes altbier a wonderful partner with food. Carmelized malt flavors echo similar flavors in grilled chicken, tuna and salmon. The biting hops are powerful enough to hold their own among rich sauces and gravies, while the light fruit palate adds a sparkle of sweetness to spicy foods.
My recommendation is Alaskan Amber, a gold-medal altbier from Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau, Alaska. Alaskan Amber is the Official Sponsor of the 2005 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The Iditadod begins March 5, 2005 in Anchorage, Alaska and ends when the last musher crosses the Burled Arch in Nome.
Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:
One day a blonde was driving down a country road when she sees another blonde in the field next to her in a rowboat trying to cross. The blonde after seeing this jumps out of the car and yells to the blonde in the rowboat, "ITS BLONDES LIKE YOU WHO GIVE BLONDES LIKE ME A BAD NAME! AND IF I COULD SWIM I'D COME OVER THERE AND KICK YOUR BUTT!!"
Beer News:
Portland, Oregon is celebrating their growing reputation as "Brewvana," with more microbrews per capital than any other state.
A new economic study shows beer-related businesses, including brewers, wholesalers, and retailers, contribute more than $2 billion to the Oregon economy, up from $1.6 billion just three years ago.
Craft Brew of the Week Award:
Anchor Steam Beer, Anchor Brewing Company, San Francisco, California, USA
Style - California Common/Steam Beer
Steam Beer is the trademark of Anchor Brewing Company, a golden craft beer originally made under pioneering conditions without ice or refrigeration - a lager beer made under ale conditions. Kept at optimum freshness, this brew is protected from air, light and heat. Special care is taken to keep all Anchor Beers cold during shipping, at the wholesale level and at the retailer, to assure the greatest freshness to the consumer.
Anchor Steam pours a light, clear copper, with an off-white head that lays delicate lacing within the glass. Sweet caramel malt flavors abound, touched with undertones of nuts and raisins. Refreshingly hoppy and drinkable!
Cheers!
