I wanted to send everyone an update on our BellaOnline email. This is private for us only.
I'm continuing to validate all of our BellaOnline site email addresses. Please do send along a note if you've gotten yours, if you haven't already. I'm going site by site to figure out where our email issues are coming from. I did find that a spammer had guessed our Greek Food password (a site without an editor) so I've changed that password. So that helps.
More problematic is that a company in China is sending out floods of spam email claiming they are BellaOnline. Their mail server is set up to be called mail.bellaonline.com when their spam goes out. That means we are getting complaints that we are sending out spam when it isn't us at all. It's a completely different server in an entirely different country. I've written to the hosting company in China to ask them for help. I'm sure you can imagine this is going very slowly. BellaOnline definitely isn't sending the spam - the sending IP address makes that clear. The problem is Chinese spammers don't play by the rules.
I will keep working on this. Hopefully I can get someone in the Chinese network structure to stop the spammer's sending ability. There's nothing I can do from "our end" because we aren't sending out the spam. We are just getting all the bounce-backs of complaints.
In the meantime, it's really important I prove that BellaOnline ourselves really are NOT sending out spam, which is why situations like the Greek Food one have to be plugged up. If we are actually sending spam ourselves too, it waters down our complaint. We have to prove we are wholly spam-free to then be able to handle this Chinese situation.
I will try to finish up my email validation effort in the coming days. If you haven't responded yet, I'll probably be contacting you in the next day or two. Once I am sure all of our "holes are plugged" as it were, I will be pushing harder on resolving this Chinese issue. Having BellaOnline tagged as a spammer impacts all of our newsletters and other messages, so this is something important for me to get resolved.
