On exhibit at Price Tower Arts Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma is "Tokyo: Imperial Capital" displaying woodblock prints by Koizumi Kishio.
On September 1, 1923, a devastating earthquake shook Tokyo and eastern Japan. A vigorous campaign was launched to restore the city and tranform it into Japan's imperial capital. Koizumi Kishio was one of the artists who captured the drama of the rebirth.
He created one hundred pictures of Tokyo, commemorating not only the earthquake, but also celebrating Tokyo's new found modernity as a city rebuilt. A selction of Kishio's prints will be on display at Frank Lloyd Wright's Price Tower Arts Center. This is the final stop on its tour of the U.S.
