Greetings and Salutations -

A number of you have talked with me recently about being nervous about finishing or publishing a book. It hopefully helps to realize that this is a natural and common reaction! I often keep delaying on publishing a book. For example, I wrote the second book in my Sutton Mass. Mystery series, Birch Blackguards, last August. I kept polishing. And polishing. Really, I was putting off publishing. I finally forced myself to publish on Friday, mostly because the IPPY deadline had hit and either I published or I gave up on any chance of winning a medal.

So sometimes setting a hard deadline can help. Mark that line. Publicize it. Set up release events. That will give you a reason to bite the bullet and publish.

I write this series in a chapter-a-day format so that reading the book is like living in Sutton for a full month. The first one was done November 2012 as my first NaNoWriMo project. I did this second one in August so I could feature a different seasonal outlook on my home town.

I hemmed and hawed about a virtual party but in the end they really are key to the success of a project. So I am indeed throwing on Sunday the 16th, i.e. “Today” at 8pm EST. I’ll have fun prizes and games! Come on by if even for a few minutes to see how this works. I highly recommend throwing a party to help publicize your projects, whether it's launching a new book, re-releasing an old one, bringing on a new client, or anything else. It’s a great way to stir up publicity and is pretty much free beyond what you choose to give as prizes. It’s all online so you can “attend” in your PJs :).
