Fernand Leger Newsletter Harvard University’s Fogg Art Museum in Cambridge, MA is sponsoring an exhibit, "Fernand Leger: Contrast of Forms" from April 14-June 10, 2007.
Leger is considered one of the great artists of the 20th century along with fellow Cubist painters: Picasso, Braque, and Matisse. On exhibition are two landmark paintings: "Smoke Over the Rooftops" (1912) and "The Staircase" (1913) along with eleven works on paper on loan from major museums and private collectors. During the period 1912-14, Leger executed a series of work known as "Contrast of Forms." They consisted of various genres: landscape, still life, and figures. The common denominator in all was the use of cones, cylinders, cubes, and planes. These works are significant for the development of abstraction in modern art. The Harvard University Art Museums consist of three museums all within walking distance from Harvard yard. They are: Fogg Art Museum, Busch-Reisinger Museum, and Arthur M. Sackler Museum. Admission allows entrance to all three museums. Buy Posters Here From AllPosters.com Here's the latest article from the Art Appreciation site at BellaOnline.com.
