The Battle of Britain
For almost four months in 1940 (10 July - 31 October), the German Luftwaffe launched an air attack against the Royal Air Force, in an effort to disable them so that they could then attack Britain by sea. This was known as The Battle of Britain, and it marked the first major defeat of the Nazis.
