Did you know that it is urban legend that the term "Hooker", a slang name for a prostitute, more than likely became popular during the Civil War? Gen. Joseph Hooker had a notorious reputation as a drinker and a ladies' man and there was always a troop of prostitutes that followed his men and were referred to as "Gen. Hooker's Brigade" or Hooker's Women and the name "hooker" stuck because of it. There are discrepancies with the story as some say it is false while others say it is true so I guess you can research the term yourself and come up with your own conclusion.
