This Week's Canadian Fun Fact
Did you know that Tommy Douglas was voted the Greatest Canadian? In 2004, the CBC held an Idol-style show (except without the singing) for famous Canadians. Canada's most popular current and historical personalities were nominated and narrowed down to a top ten. The top ten's stories were told and defended by various advocates on CBC television, and then the Canadian public voted for who they thought was the greatest. Tommy Douglas, who was responsible for coming up with Canada's universal health care system, won out over all others (including Terry Fox, hockey announcer Don Cherry, and Wayne Gretzky) to get top spot as the Greatest Canadian.
What's Up Canuck? Your Weekly Canadian Trivia Question
Last Week's Question & Answer:
What is Canada's favourite hockey team?
According to SportingNews.com, 40% of Canadians voted for the Montreal Canadiens as their favourite hockey team on a Canadian Press Harris/Decima survey. The Habs were followed by the Toronto Maple Leafs with 24% of the vote. I know hockey can be a touchy subject and many Canadians are not going to agree that the Montreal Canadiens are Canada's favourite team... If you don't agree, feel free to voice your opinion in the forum.
