Here's the latest article from the Attention Deficit Disorder site at BellaOnline.com.
Greetings from the soggy Land of Oz!
This week I'm exploring how to use your strengths of creative problem solving and loads of energy to overcome some of the negative symptoms of ADD in the workplace.
I used to dread projects until I learned to deal with them. This learning was a bit of hit and miss. Becoming a teacher forced me into learning to deal with projects. Getting 67 sixth graders through 67 different individual Science Fair projects, while maintaining grades of each of the components of those projects, can fast-track the learning process!
Our minds keep track of what we do and why we do it. This is part of executive function. It is organizing time, space, and tasks, while monitoring and evaluating our performance. I understand that I have executive function problems. These difficulties can interfere with effective decision making. I've learned that to be effective, I must plan details more than most people do. In a classroom, I have to plan many more aspects of management and student work than my colleagues do.
People with ADD and executive function problems are sometimes worried that a project can turn into a disaster. Building structure within the project is essential. With careful planning and focused attention to detail, managing a project can be a way for the person with ADD to shine in the workplace.
I hope you've enjoyed the Hangman, Word Scramble, and Quizzes. If you haven't partaken in the good times, go to the Fun and Games section of the ADD Site. Enjoy!
Have a blessed week,
Connie
