Beer Tasting Tips - Judging Mouthfeel
You may believe that mouthfeel has little to do with the sensations of flavor. Flavor, however, is the mind's interpretation of aroma, taste and the sense of touch, also known as mouthfeel.

Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

Kriek is a traditional Summer beer.  This is a lambic beer  made with cherries, fermented in oakwood or chestnutwood barrels.  At Cantillon Brewery, fermentation in the bottle begins in early October and is complete in about 5 months.  Aging enhances the flavor profile.

It is thirst-quenching, and blends well with white cheeses, brown bread, and fresh vegetables like radishes, chives and cucumbers.

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

Q: Why won't sharks attack lawyers?

A: Professional courtesy.

Q: What do you get when you cross the Godfather with a lawyer?

A: An offer you can't understand.

Q. What's the difference between a lawyer and a vampire?

A. A vampire only sucks blood at night.

Q. Why are lawyers buried 12 feet underground?

A. Deep down, they're good.

Q. What's the difference between a lawyer and a herd of buffalo?

A. The lawyer charges more.

Beer News:

"Dickie's Brew" is the latest creation from Acorn Brewery, a northern England brewery in Barnsley, U.K.  Named after retired cricket umpire Dickie Bird, the new brew will benefit The Dickie Bird Foundation, a charity established by Bird to help disadvantaged kids get involved with sports.  For every pint sold, a donation will be made to the foundation.

Dickie's Brew has a slightly sweet malt character and a dashingly lively aroma.  The flavor profile is targeted to both lager lovers and those who prefer traditional style English beer.

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock - Kuhnhenn Brewing Company, Warren, Michigan

Style: Eisbock

This beautiful walnut-mahogany brew with small thin head is packed with the aroma of fresh raspberries and bitter chocolate.  Slightly tart, this fine brew is touches with the sweetness of malt and warming alcohol. Full, pleasant mouthfeel makes this ice-bock a highly drinkable beer.

Cheers!
