Greetings to all from Northern Nevada. It is another lovely morning here and I have already been out for a long walk with my dog who thinks he is a wolf, but only when he sees other dogs that are smaller than him! I enjoy early morning walks when the air is still fresh and cool and the dew is lingering on the bushes and trees, looking like millions of diamonds in the early sun light. Walking in beautiful, quiet places inspires me to think of things to write about.

Sometimes, I hear the distant call of a mountain lion and I wonder what she (or he) is doing way off beyond the little mountain range I walk by. The call echos and carries a long distance. I stop to listen and my dog cocks his head to listen also, instantly alert to any threat. But, the lion is far away and we go on our way once again, thinking about the beauty of the wild.

The little quail were active this morning and it is such a delight to see the babies running along after mom and dad. If you ever get a chance to see quail, you will notice that the adult male always takes the lead, checking for any possible danger before going out in the open or crossing a path or road. If all is well, he calls to the female and she runs out with all her little babies coming after her, looking like little tennis balls rolling along. The male waits for them all to reach him, lets them pass, then follows them. This is such an endearing part of Nature, to see the private daily routine of the little animals and birds.

By the time I got back home, I was exhilarated and starving! I fed my dog then cooked up one of my favorite breakfasts - Fry bread (I always have some on hand, wrapped in clean cotton flour sack towels in my bread basket) stuffed with scrambled eggs, shredded cheddar and sausage with peppers and onions. I cook the peppers and onions with the sausage. This is a quick and delicious breakfast and gets me started on a great day. A cup of coffee and I am set!

When I sat down at my computer, ready to start writing, I began thinking of what it was like for the Paiute, Shoshone, Washoe, Walapai and many other tribes of Nevada, long before European contact and how they lived their lives. I wandered off for quite awhile in my mind, looking out the window at a clear blue sky, and imagining the peaceful existence they must have had back then when there was no indication of what the future held. This is always of great interest to me.

Nevada has 314 mountain ranges and 24 state parks and Lake Tahoe, which is one of the most beautiful and bluest lakes in the world. There are many other lovely lakes, like Frenchman Lake and Pyramid Lake. With all this beauty, there are many places to find for camping and enjoying the wilderness and Nature to get a taste of what the Native Americans cherished and greatly respected. The wildlife here is abundant and fascinating and you will find many beautiful spots for fishing. Coyote loves to spend his mornings sitting by Stone Mother at Lake Pyramid to watch the fishers come out. It is very peaceful as he talks with the ancient Mother.
