Greetings and Salutations!
We're preparing to put our Social Networking promotions live, so please take one last look in the Social Networking area of your admin area and make sure the links you have are all working properly. If you have any questions about your URL, I'm happy to help out. We want to make sure our links are all set when we promote it to the world!
There are some great, immediately useful tips on how to use social networking to promote all of your projects in this free Kindle ebook -
http://www.amazon.com/Zarrellas-Hierarchy-Contagiousness-Engineering-ebook/dp/B005BP1Y36/
You don't need to have a Kindle to read it. There's a link there to download a free app for your computer to read it. That Kindle Reader would let you read all other free Kindle books as well, so it's worth downloading.
There's fascinating data in the free ebook. For example if you post negative Tweets it harms your overall traffic over time. Another key he mentions is to talk AS yourself but don't talk ABOUT yourself. People want to hear your view, but they want to hear your view on topics they care about :)
Great stuff!
FEATURING ARTICLES
Google has been tweaking their systems every month or so in a continuing effort to downgrade and kick out sites that are "gaming" their system. We have to be very alert that we don't run afoul of their ranking system. Since we're all one big site, the activities of a single editor or two can cause our entire site to drop in rankings and therefore traffic.
Please be careful when you choose a feature date for your article that you're happy with it and then let it stay on that date. If you feature something on Friday, then edit the date to re-feature it on Saturday, then change the date again to re-feature it on Sunday, Google immediately notices that and decides that you are trying to trick it. It then harms the entire site as one that is playing games. This directly harms the article in question and then in a ripple effect harms all other articles in the system.
Certainly if you had an article last Labor Day that linked to your 10 top Labor Day recipes, and you want to revamp and refeature the article for this Labor Day, that is fine. That is a once-a-year activity and your polishing with fresh content will help Google see the purpose of the refeature.
However, if you're posting a new article for this week, and you've chosen a date with it, please stay with that one day. "Bouncing" the article repeatedly can cause serious harm for your site in particular and for the whole network.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this!
