Hello Beauties,

This week let’s talk selfies. That may seem like a strange topic for a cosmetics newsletter, but I’m sure we all know how it feels when we get all made up: we want people to see it! First let’s explore a few techniques to get the best photo setup.

1) Make sure you have adequate lighting. Natural lighting, diva rings, or softboxes can have a wonderful effect on your photo.

2) Make sure you don’t have anything visible you may be embarrassed about. This can mean a dirty room, the bathroom, or avoiding a Kim K like scandal.

3) Choose a background. You can pick something natural like outside or indoors, or go all out and pick a backdrop.

4) Do one last final check of your face and hair to make sure everything is on point.

Now that we got the photo out of the way, it’s time to pick any filters and photo editing apps. Smartphone cameras have improved significantly over the years. It’s now possible to make just about anything happen for free using nothing but your phone. Once you snap a selfie, go through the filter options available on your device and see if anything grabs your eye. If not, there are quite a few filters available on social media sites that you can sift through while uploading your pic. Here are a couple of my favorite free photo editing apps.

1) Snapchat. While I do realize that Snapchat technically qualifies as social media, I almost strictly use it for the filters.

2) BeautyPlus. I like this app for when I want my images to look airbrushed. If you’re not careful though your pics can come out looking extremely fake and animated.

3) Collageable. This name is self-explanatory. This app allows users to create photo collages. The free version should be all you need but of course they have a pro version with way more options.

4) iMovie. I like it because I can create short videos that I can later edit. It’s a very user-friendly app for beginners.

5) Magisto. You can short movies or photo montages that you can then set to music. I like this app in particular for that because you can use the music on your phone and not just generic tunes.

Have fun uploading!

Stay gorgeous,

Katrina Simmons
