The autumnal equinox is the beginning of autumn. Soon the leaves will turn and the days and nights become crisper. The equinox was celebrated by the earliest known civilizations and it continues to be so in many places. One of the biggest celebrations is the Chinese Moon Festival.

*Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2012*
The awards were announced on Wednesday night for the Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2012. The presentation took place at the Royal Greenwich Observatory on Wednesday night.
