Hello Beauties,

This week let’s talk about beauty sponges. I’m sure we all remember those cosmetic wedges from back in the day. Well in this day and age those have been replaced with makeup sponges. Bold claims have been made that they use up less product and provide a gorgeous, streak free finish. They come in all sorts of colors and sizes for use with all sorts of products. While I initially wasn’t sold, I must say that they are definitely growing on me.
Now supposedly, the Cadillac of the beauty sponge world is the much talked about Beauty Blender. These babies retail at $20 for a single, regular sponge. They of course have quite a few variations such as mini sponges for around the eyes, and larger sponges for larger areas of the body. While I am all about saving money, which I’m sure many of you can agree with, I went ahead a purchased a regular Beauty Blender. I do get what all the fuss is about. The finish was flawless, the sponge was soft, and the pointed tip did reach under my eyes comfortably. I’m not by any means knocking the blender, but there are definitely cheaper alternatives that, in my opinion, work just as well.

One example of such a sponge is of course the Real Techniques sponge. These sponges are priced much more reasonably. They offer a six pack of variety sponges for the price of one Beauty Blender! The finish is just as flawless and the sponge just as soft.

PUR Cosmetics also offers a beauty sponge. While it is a little denser than those previously mentioned, it is more versatile as well. It is also cheaper than the Beauty Blender. The finish is just as flawless.

The main point, is that there are cheaper alternatives for those on a budget or looking to save money in general. While it may be nice to splurge on a Beauty Blender or two, do not feel like your makeup will look basic without it.

Stay gorgeous,

Katrina Simmons
