Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

Beer is chock-full-of-malt, which makes it an excellent component in basting sauces.  As the liquid "cooks down," the malts in beer caramelize and blend with the herbs and spices, imparting a sweet-as-toffee glazed sheen over meats such as beef, pork and ham.

A Schwarzbier or German Doppelbock can be blended with fruit jam and meat-enhancing herbs.  "Smoked beer" basting sauces are great for grilling.  Belgian Ales, blended with a dash of Southern Comfort or Scotch whisky, honey and apricot marmalade adds an awakening zip to ham, lamb or chicken.

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

A man is dining in a fancy restaurant, and there is a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He has been checking her out since he sat down but lacks the nerve to talk with her.  Suddenly she sneezes, and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back.

"Oh my, I am sooo sorry," the woman says as she pops her eye back in place.  "Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you," she says.

They enjoy a wonderful dinner together and afterwards the theater, followed by drinks.  They talk, they laugh; she shares her deepest dreams, and he shares his. She listens.

After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap...and stay for breakfast the next morning.  The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings.

The guy is amazed.  Everything had been incredible.  "You know," he said, "you are the perfect woman.  Are you this nice to every guy you meet?"

"No, she replies, "You just happened to catch my eye."

Beer News:

In Pennsylvania, beer distributors across the state can celebrate the loosening of the old blue law restrictions that formerly put the taboo on Sunday sales.  The new laws allow distributors to be open for business between noon and 5 p.m. on Sundays, while restaurateurs with food capabilities to feed 30 people can now stay open for business from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., after obtaining a $300 state permit.

As would be expected, the new law is being met with mixed reactions. Newer businesses are chomping-at-the-bit for the opportunity to increase revenues with the additional Sunday hours, while more established businesses, who like their time off, are cautious about the competitive edge these new hours can create.
