Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

Is having a beer for breakfast a bad thing?

European, perhaps, but certainly not bad. Your aim should be to match the beer style with the food you are consuming. Some breakfast pairings:

Bacon and eggs - Belgian witbier; Bavarian Weissbier

Eggs and asparagus - Belgian Tripel

Eggs Benedict - American wheat beer; kolsch; helles; weissbier; witbier

Poached eggs - Framboise; American wheat beer

Fried bananas - Imperial Stout; milk stout; Baltic porter; weissbier

Fruit tarts - Framboise; Peche; Flemish Red; Belgian-style kriek

Belgian Waffles - Imperial stout; Milk stout; Belgian-style kriek; sweet fruit beer

Fresh Melon Cup - Bavarian weissbier; framboise; Belgian-style kriek; American wheat beer

Quiche - American wheat beer; kolsch; helles; weissbier; witbier

Bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon - pilsner; saison; Bavarian weissbier; Belgian witbier; kolsch; dortmunder; gueuze

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

Barry went to this cricket match that was to decide who would get the ashes between the Poms and Aussie.

He was allowed in and told there were no seats but seeing he came from Oz they would let him in. If he could find a seat he could have it.

He looks around and spies a prime seat empty in the stand.

He goes up to the bloke sitting next to it and asks, "Excuse me, mate, is that seat available?"

"You’re in luck, mate, it’s my missus and she couldn’t make it."

Barry took up the pew and remarked, "I sure am lucky! It’s a wonder you couldn’t have given it to one of your mates!"

"No mate, they’re all at the wife’s funeral."

Beer News:

According to the most recent figures in the annual craft beer review of The New Brewer (Brewers Association, publisher), Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, Colorado, USA topped the nation for beer production by US brewpubs in 2005. This was a 92% increase over 2004 figures.

Oskar Blues increased production to 5,000 barrels annual yield due to the enthusiastic acceptance of their canned craft beers, now distributed throughout 13 states - Dale's Pale Ale; Old Chub Scottish Style Ale; Gordon; Leroy.

All this, from a little mountain town with a population of 1,700! Congrats, to Dale and Christi Katechis!

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Batch 374 - Magic Hat Brewing Company, South Burlington, Vermont, USA
Style - American Amber / Red Ale

Its body shines with bronzed tea highlights beneath a creamy, off-white slather of a head with sticky, spotty lace. Your nose fills with an extraordinary surge of aromatic hops - pine, citrus, orange, earth, mint, herbal tea, and exotic pepper. What a shot of enticing power for the hophead! Whoa! I'm in heaven!

Blend all this hop magnificence with the rich, bready, malt sweetness - light caramel, dotted with a fruit background - and you have a GRAND SLAM into brewers heaven. A party in the mouth! Truly amazing!

Cheers!
