Quilting

December 15 2010 Quilting Newsletter

Well, what a week I’ve just experienced!! Probably one of the busiest this year. With the Christmas season upon us, there are lots of breaking up Christmas parties to attend and it’s all so exhausting!! It doesn’t help that it’s extremely humid at present, with thunderous clouds surrounding by midday, ready to empty their bellies onto an already soaked Brisbane and surrounds. So we drink water constantly to replace what we’re losing.

On Monday I had the Sunshine Linus gathering, lots of laughs and lots of work completed. An especially wonderful day because we were able to hand over 60 quilts to an organisation that provides quilts and comforts to foster children, some of whom are from very sad backgrounds and are constantly being shifted for safety reasons. It is these children that we have provided quilts, to give them a sense of owning their own belongings, and of course receiving the message that their health and comfort matters to complete strangers!

Then Tuesday was our Queensland Quilters Christmas party, and boy, did we have some fun. Always great to get together with quilters and celebrate the season.
Yesterday was the Sisters of Stitch group that meets every two weeks (doesn’t break for Christmas or any other reason) and we did have a feast of home baked goodies and a little farewell to our friend Paz, who has spend the last 10 months here in Australia minding her little grandson. She is returning to her home country Spain, and we’ll miss her very much. Interestingly, Paz doesn’t have very good English, and none of us have Spanish, but somehow, through the language of Quiltish, we have managed to communicate wonderfully.

I posted my final Christmas article for 2010 last Sunday and it is a selection of quilt shops accessible on the web, where loved ones can purchase wonderful Quilting items. Here’s the link: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art5036.asp

I’ve had only response to our request for a quilter to help make a quilt, and I’ll pass that info onto the requester. Here’s the forum if you’d like to contribute: http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=43
