Quilting

May 22 2014 Quilting Newsletter

Hello everyone, I’m chasing my tail again this week and running late again. Please forgive me. I’ve been involved in judging a quilt challenge for a wonderful group of girls who live on an island a little north of Brisbane.

They are a prolific group of quilters and the other judge and I were not disappointed with the quality of the challenge entries. We found it very challenging to pick the place getters as this challenge was a table runner (with lots of different sizes). The criteria was to use only three colours and a minimum size.

It’s thrilling to be asked to judge other people’s creations – and a privilege. As a quilter of some three decades, I know the effort it takes to make something and be prepared to put it up for scrutiny. I don’t advocate the behaviour of some quilters who make quilts “for judging only”. I imagine this could be quite soul destroying.

I like the idea of making quilts for the personal delight of making quilts or the journey if you like, and then if it happens to be convenient, for judging. You will be a winner either way then.

Last week I posted my review of a local quilt show that I attended on the weekend. It was a great day and I took some lovely photographs (thanks Leone for the loan of the camera)! Here’s the link: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art183346.asp
