May 29 2012 Quilting Newsletter

Hello Quilters! It’s me popping in for a quick cuppa and a catch up. It’s been a bit of a screamer for me this week – I’m off to Victoria to teach at a Quilt Retreat over the weekend. I love teaching at these types of weekends with the opportunity to meet new people and have lots of fun, but I don’t entirely enjoy the packing to get there.

As a quilt teacher, it is soooooo important to make sure you have everything you need at your fingertips. Your students really appreciate your preparedness and everything stays calm. It’s especially important not to forget anything if you’re travelling a long distance from home. So I’ve double checked my list and checked it again to make sure.

My flight takes 2 hours, then another 3 hours to the venue and vice versa for coming home on Monday. I’m teaching hand skills – needle turn appliqué and Celtic appliqué. I do love teaching this particular genre because students tend to think they are going to have difficulty achieving the finer skills of needle turn appliqué, and I love the ah-ha moments that occur frequently in this class. Without sewing machines roaring at the speed of light, the hand sewing classes tend to be relaxed and just plain fun. Anyway, I’ll tell you all about it next week.

Last Sunday I continued the series on color and posted an article titled “Quilting with Green”. Here’s the link to that article: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art176633.asp

We’ve had a few quilters stop by for comments on the forum. Here’s the link if you’d like to contribute also: http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php/forums/43/1/Quilting

So, onto my little gifties for you this week. BTW, I was talking to a newsletter subscriber last weekend at a quilt show and she mentioned how much she enjoyed the little surprise links at the end of my newsletter. I originally used to post 2 or 3 links, and it’s grown to about 7 – 8. Let me know if you think it’s too much to get through each week, and I’ll reduce them a little.

Anyway, have fun with these:
