"I don't think actors should have to do anything but come in and act. I feel the film companies should pay for proper advertising to see that the movie will sell, instead of putting it on our backs. I've tried to narrow the contractual language, which requires a 'fair and reasonable' amount of publicity. I've said in negotiations; 'How much will you pay me not to have to promote?'" Actor Billy Crudup

Crudup plays the leading role in this week's film, "The Stanford Prison Experiment." Although he isn't fond of doing publicity, Crudup cared enough about this film to do an extended interview on "Charlie Rose" alongside the man he plays, Dr. Philip Zimbardo. "The Stanford Prison Experiment" is not a biopic. It covers a very narrow time frame, basically the six days of the experiment. Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez allows the viewer to make a decision as to whether Zimbardo's actions and motivations are ethical and responsible.

Crudup's other 2015 release, "Spotlight", also explores the question of power and abuse of authority. The film is set in Boston and follows the journalists who investigated sex abuse in the Catholic Church. Crudup plays Eric MacLeish, a lawyer who represented victims suing the Church. At last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards, "Spotlight" received the award for best performance by a cast in a motion picture. Crudup was in attendance to accept the award.

The Sundance Film Festival has wrapped up for another year. One of the mainstream films to debut at the festival was "Captain Fantastic", starring Viggo Mortensen and Frank Langella. The film will be released this summer, but you can watch interviews with Viggo Mortensen and director Matt Ross on Youtube now.
