Dreyer directed most of his films in the 1920s, but I think his quote is applicable to actress Juliette Binoche. She is featured in Erik Poppe's film "1,000 Times Good Night" and gives another inspired performance. Binoche plays a photojournalist who specializes in war pictures. Poppe worked as a photojournalist before he began directing films. He decided to make his main character a female because "the female perspective in our story is all about how a woman photographer in particular is better able to portray the totality of war. She is in the same place men are, and is covering the same situations, but in the Muslim world she also had access to areas from which male journalists are excluded." The film was partly shot in Ireland, and U2 drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. makes a cameo appearance.

The Cannes Film Festival awarded its highest honor, the Palm D'Or, to the film "Dheepan". Directed by French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, it tells the story of a group of Sri Lankan immigrants in France. Sundance Selects has picked up the US distributions rights, so we should be able to see this film in America sometime soon.
