This is one of my favorite sections from Flynn's memoir "My Wicked, Wicked Ways." While I in no way admire Flynn's behavior off-screen, I do admire some of his writing. Flynn wrote numerous magazine articles and two autobiographical novels, "Beam Ends" and "Showdown".

"Beam Ends" dramatizes Flynn's early life in Australia and New Guinea. Flynn tried his hand at numerous occupations including gold prospector, plantation manager, amateur boxer, and sailor/tour guide. The novel is the basis for a new film, currently in production in Australia, titled "In Like Flynn". The screenplay is co-written by the actor's grandson Luke Flynn. It is directed by the Australian Russel Mulcahy, which makes me somewhat nervous. Mulcahy is known mainly for his work in music videos and directing the first two "Highlander" movies. Not exactly a stellar resume. IMDb catagorizes "In Like Flynn" as an action movie, but I hope it manages to take Flynn seriously as a person. Time will tell. The film is scheduled for release in 2018.

I'll close with a shout out to actress Olivia de Havilland, Flynn's co-star in eight films. Ms. de Havilland is still with us and based on a recent interview she granted, still retains all her faculties. She will turn 101 years old on July 1st. Bravo, Olivia!
