October 31 2014 Editor Assistance Newsletter
A quirk of the new server software is that it's much pickier about email addresses being valid. For example, I just sent out my low carb newsletter as a test and the mailer choked on an address like this:
The double-at-sign is invalid, but apparently the old server didn't care. It just tried to mail to it and gave up. Our new server actually stops processing when it hits that problem.
I did a sweep of our member database and fixed all the double-at-signs I found. I'll add code to our signup so that, going forward, anybody who enters a double-at-sign by mistake gets it changed to a single-at-sign automatically.
Now that I know the mailer is this sensitive, it means there might be other random strange things in our newsletter database that will cause a hiccup.
I've temporarily coded our newsletter mailer so that, if it hits a problem, it shows you what email addresses it was working on. If your newsletter mailing jams, please look at the list you're shown and email me with the very last one you see. You might have to scroll right in your browser to see it. I'll track that email down and manually fix it in the system - and I'll make sure there are no similar ones like that. Then you can re-send your list smoothly.
This will be good for us - it'll help make our newsletter database even better than before :).
