Greetings and Salutations -

A huge project I’m working on right now is to move all my websites (including BellaOnline) off that old hosting company and onto a new set of servers. While I do that, I’m also converting each site over into responsive design. I didn't want to do it all at the same time, but Google has made clear that sites without responsive design are about to get hit with severe penalties. We want to avoid that! :)

Responsive design means you have a single website that works properly on all different devices – computers, tablets, phones, etc. In the “old days” (i.e. a few years ago) people would make different versions of their site. They'd offer a mobile version, a PC version, and so on. Nowadays Google wants you to have just one version that’s smart enough to adjust for the screen that’s coming to it. That means the site has to use CSS to detect the screen size and adjust accordingly.

Google is about to create SERIOUS penalties for sites that aren’t set up like this, so it’s well worth it to do this change.

So far I’ve gotten two of my sites converted. I’m going from the smallest up, so I can learn as I go before I tackle the big ones. So first is my one-page site for my LLC –

http://minervawebworks.com/

and then next is my site for my ASPIsFun content –

http://aspisfun.com/

Both of these use templates that adjust for different devices. For example on my PC the ASPIsFun site has two columns on my desktop PC. When I view it on my phone, the second column tucks underneath he first so it’s one long column. It means everything views far more easily on a phone.

Definitely look into responsive design for any sites you have! Otherwise when Google does their update in a few weeks you may find you lose a lot of traffic.

Here’s a tester you can use –

I'll let you know as I get closer to the BellaOnline site, but it'll be a while. So no rush yet :).

Let me know if you have questions!
