For many, many years we've let our visitors send fun online postcards with a range of images available -
The visitor simply put in their own name and email address, a destination name and email address, and chose an image. They added a message. Off the message went.
The problem is that spammers think this is delightful. They put in a fake sender name and then fill in all sorts of random destination email addresses to send a spam message to. We now become a spam sender.
Sadly, I think we're going to have to take the postcards down. There's no way to guarantee that the destination person isn't a victim who is about to be spammed. We don't want to be censoring postcard messages and guessing if the message is a spam one or not.
There used to be lots of companies offering free online postcards and most have folded, probably due to this same reason. I'm not sure how the remaining ones are surviving. Maybe they block people if they see they are spamming, but the person could just create a new account. Our world has gotten challenging.
