Greetings and Salutations -
Thank you to the editors who pointed out I had somehow thought Tuesday was the wrong date :). Our Google+ Editor Chat is on Tuesday, September THIRD. Tuesday Tuesday. 9pm EST. So that is when to plan for our chat!
While I'm emailing you anyway, I just posted step by step instructions on how I created my Conquering your Fear of Spiders ebook from start to finish in under 24 hours. That includes coming up with the concept to having it live on Amazon. I document the steps here -

This should work for any short-format ebook where you know the material. I.e. I didn't have to research the topic - I already knew it. All I had to do is write. If you have to do some research, that investment of time takes place in the article writing stage :). So the research is all done beforehand. The ebook-compiling step comes when you have that material set and are ready to market it in ebook format.
Remember to focus in with your ebook. Avoid broad topics like "How to Landscape". That is far too broad. People don't go hunting for help with broad topics. They have specific needs. "Cactus Care in Sandy Soil". "Tuna Fish Microwave Recipes". "Persian Cat Care". Focus in on the key words. Your want your book to be the top result when someone searches on those key words. Cute titles don't work well on Amazon. People won't find them when they search. Think about what your potential reader would be searching on, to find this information.
It's fine to have wider interests! Just write a series of books - Parakeet Care, Conure Care, Finch Care, and so on. Someone who has a finch isn't going to want to read about conures and parakeets necessarily. They won't buy a "pet bird care" book. So narrow right in on what it is they need to know.
We have a private forum area specifically to help you get your books and ebooks published -

Feel free to post there with all your questions, and we'll lend a hand.
I tend to post examples with non-fiction, as that's what most of us are working on, but we can help with fiction as well. I have 10 medieval novels published, and two more about to be published in the coming months. You can see their topics here -

I'm happy to send along any of those in EPUB, MOBI, PDF, and DOC format so you can see how they're laid out. Just let me know what you'd like and in what format, and I'll put it into the email for you.
Let me know if you have any questions!
