I'm still catching up on my email, and one of the things I found while working through the messages was a note from the NaNoWriMo group that we're about a month away from that project starting. So I wanted to be sure to give you all a heads' up!
National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a great way to build and polish your writing skills. The aim is to start on November 1, finish on November 30, and have 50,000 words of a novel complete by that time. It's not as much about a "perfect novel" as it is about getting into the rhythm of writing. The more you write, the easier it gets. The faster your fingers move on the typewriter. The smoother your mind's gears turn. The easier it is to work around hurdles.
Their website is here, and completely free -
If you finish the project you get a number of free bonus items. Last year it included free copies of your own book from CreateSpace.
They provide great encouragement and support, timely tips, and they also help you hook up with other local writers. Local groups often have fun get-togethers at local coffee shops and such. This can forge friendships that last long beyond NaNoWriMo.
I'll be posting about this in the forums, and I definitely encourage you to give it a try. It doesn't cost anything. It builds up your skills which are useful for all writing projects you might tackle. It's a lot of fun :). It can push you out of your comfort zone, which can be a good thing.
Let me know if you have any questions!
