I was lucky enough today to try samples - hard cheese shavings and soft cheese morsels - of English cheeses at a local delicatessan. My original vision for this article was to write about English cheeses - in fact I found I had enough subject matter with just one, albeit a cheese that I believe is the most pospular cheese in England. Cheddar, a hard cheese, is made and eaten in many parts of the world. Cheddar, a staple English food, originated in south west England in the twelth century and carries the name of the place that gave it birth.
