How is your job search going?

I recently picked 23 applicants to interview for a position out of 326 candidates. Out of the 23 - only eight were interviewed. Why? A few had already found another job. Several didn't read the job advertisement for salary and hours - they declined to interview. A few more didn't respond to several attempts to reach them by phone or e-mail. A couple were no call-no shows on their interview day.
What happened? Would you schedule an interview and just not show up?
