September 6 2007 Romance Novels Newsletter

Hello, and welcome back! It's the last day of a mini-vacation here for me, and I've gotten quite a bit of reading done in the last three days. I'm well into next week's review books, and most of the way through the September releases. At this pace, I'll be digging into the October romances in no time.

If you haven't stopped by the main site lately, you've missed the last of the August books and the beginning of the September releases: The Bracelet, Force of Nature, and Last Breath were the remaining August romances, and Touch Me and Lord of the Deep are the first of the September books. I hope you'll check them out; you may find something interesting to read among those reviewed books. Next up will be Erin McCarthy and Jayne Ann Krentz's latest paranormals.

For Regency fans, good news: Sourcebooks has begun to reisssue Georgette Heyer's books as trade paperbacks. The first of those releases is this month's An Infamous Army, her epic tale of Barbara Childe and Colonel Charles Audley and the way their love triumphs despite separation and war. In October, Cotillion is being released, and they plan to reissue six more in the spring of 2008, and hope to release still more after that. I remember reading all of those books when I was in school; they were one of many reasons I fell for romance novels, and I'm happy they'll be around for new readers to discover, and for old fans to rediscover.

For the authors among us, a couple things this time out. If you wanted to get to New Jersey Romance Writers' annual conference, your time is running out. The cut-off for registration is Sept. 12, 2007. There are some great authors scheduled to speak this year, not to mention the giant list of agents and editors who'll be there, speaking and listening to pitches from aspiring authors. Perhaps I'll see you there!

Also, a few editorial notes: at Avon, the historical editors are interested in sexy, emotional stories, but no American settings. All queries must go via email: avonromance@harpercollins.com Include your short synopsis in the query; response time is about three weeks. And at Bantam Dell, senior editor Shauna Summers said she'd like to see some good, straight contemporary romance. Snail mail queries only, and don't expect to hear back from them for several months.

As always, I hope you'll drop by the forum to chat with us about your romance reading.

And until next time, happy reading and writing!
