Odd things happen in bowling and I'm sure many of you have witnessed more of the same.

It just seems that the 10-pin is coming more and more frequently. On any given night, everyone in the league will leave three or four a game. Watch the PBA on television and even the pros have trouble with that pesky pin. We all seem to be pounding the pocket and leaving them "all over the place."

Most people have higher standards and expectations for their personal actions. They may forgive others for doing something unsuccessfully; but they'll keep thinking about the same error over and over again if they personally did it.

A bowler doesn't have to know all the technical details of how the lane is oiled, what type of oil is being used, or what pattern is laid down. They just have to know how to adjust so they can get a better shot to the pocket and carry.

In order for you to perform well, you must keep positive thoughts in your mind at all times. Have you ever seen an athlete win a competition by constantly being down on themselves?

How is it possible that a bowler of his caliber could have lost focus like that? I'm sure you'll agree with me that it can happen to anyone at any time, under any circumstances. We are all human and we may all fall into the trap known as "self-sabotage." We do it to ourselves.

The greater majority of you will know that the foul line extends up the walls of the bowling center on both sides of the house, in line with the actual black line marked on the lanes. Therefore, it was a foul.

"The only thing that doesn't change is change." Well, in the modern sport of bowling, you have to take that to heart because whenever you bowl, the lane conditions will change every time you throw the ball.

People are still amazed when someone enters the bowling center with as many as eight bowling balls. They get even more amazed when, in answer to the question, "How many bowling balls do you have?" my answer is, "three; but I'd like to have more, if I could afford them."

You shouldn't have to be bowling with a ball that hurts your hand. With so many combinations available to him or her, a sharp pro shop professional can, and should be able to, drill a ball that will be both comfortable and practical for you to throw.
