The great families of Poland
There are many family names that still remind of powerful families that used to rule Poland or had strong influence on its politics. The most known families were two dynasties that ensured many successful hereditary rulers for the country.

Minorities in Poland
Although Poland is believed by many to be mono-cultural, there are many ethnic groups that inhabit the country since ages. Their ancestors arrived to Poland in search of better life. Although they do not form strong communities now, they still keep and cherish their culture.

Independence Day of Poland
Gaining back independence by Poland is celebrated on 11th of November. As the Poles look back on that day on their past, it is the day of remembrance over those who fought for Polish freedom. 11th of November is still one of the most important events in Poland.

Polish tribes
There are numerous tribes that used to inhabit the lands that are now within Poland. The article describes the most important ones, provides basic information mentioning also some of the important settlements and meaning of the names.

Astonishing Polish cemeteries
The most known burial places are situated in Warsaw, Krakow and Zakopane. They feature astonishing architecture and great people who have been buried on them. Those cemeteries are ranked among the most precious monuments of Poland.

The legend about Krakow dragon
The legends are the most popular information for tourists visiting a given city. Poland, as most of the countries, has its own legends, as well as its own dragon. The story of Wawel Dragon and shoemaker Skuba is known all around Poland.

All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day
During the two days the Poles celebrate bank holiday that gives time and opportunity for contemplation. Especially important, during this time, is remembrance to all those who died. Visitors to cemeteries embellish graves with flowers and candles.

Saint Faustyna and the Divine Mercy
Helena was born in a poor numerous family of Kowalskis. She felt the vocation in her early years. In spite of serious illness and poor education, Faustyna richly described her mystic experiences. Apart from the diary, Faustyna is also associated with the depiction of Divine Mercy.

Kopytka (Little Hooves) recipe
Potato dumplings, that remind with their shape little hooves, may be served in various ways. They are easy and cheap to make. Kopytka taste wonderfully with spicy toppings as well as with sugar and melted butter on it.

Mieszko I, the founder of Poland
The first ruler of newly formed Poland has never got the title of a king. As a prince he managed, however, to strengthen united tribes. He is also the monarch who brought Christianity to the nation, introducing at the same time Latin culture.
