Tatted Jewelry, Necklaces, Bracelets and Earrings by Annamaria Riccardi. This 2013 book is full of easy and fun to tat traditional designs. Although printed in Italian, the full color photos and diagrams make it simple to follow directions.
2 Color Cluny Necklace Dagmar Pezzuto
Dagmar Pezzuto shares a challenging two color cluny petal necklace. This pattern uses rings, split rings, bead in the center of rings, cluny tatting, and two color cluny petals. Here is a great opportunity to experiment with both color and beads.

Two Color Edging DMC
Linda Reiff has modernized this vintage DMC Tatting pattern. Located on pg. 26, it is the Edging Fig. 12 in Two Color Tatting. This is an excellent two color for beginning tatters. It will also introduce them to floating rings and RODS.
Starting a Pattern
You do not have to start exactly where the directions say. Remember that older patterns told us often to cut and tie when it was completely unnecessary. Tatters today try to modernize patterns by starting with a starter picot, or using a mock picot to climb out into a split ring/chain.
Shuttle vs Needle Tatting
Which is easiest to learn, shuttle tatting or needle tatting?
Chemical Lace Tatting
Chemical Lace. Machine-made Tatting, Faux Tatting. Embroidered fabric was treated with a chemical which dissolved the fabric leaving only the faux "tatted lace" behind. Examples of chemical lace tatting can be puzzling to the tatter.
